As a Mexican food aficionado (grew up in southern California), this place did not live up to my expectations. For starters the food, while tasty, was pricey and came in very small portions. Their menu changes seasonally but for the record, my companion and I shared the beans, shrimp salad, avocado "salad" (guacamole), a chicharone salad and short ribs. Salsa is considered a side and costs extra. We were still a little hungry after but didn't feel compelled to order more food (nothing really got our interest and at this point we had already spent about $30/pp). Second, while I understand this place is aiming to do haute cuisine, the menu did not have a single traditional Mexican dish on their menu. Ambiance is nice; we were there early on a Friday night and had to be seated on the bar area because they didn't have room in their dining room. The waiter was OK -- provided some helpful suggestions at the beginning of the meal but didn't really check in during the meal. Also misinformed us about some of the ingredients in one of the dishes we ordered. Overall I think 3 stars is warranted because the high price (with good, but not amazing food) and the so-so service.
