I do not recommend this dentist to anyone!! I received a flyer in the mail offering a $35.00 cleaning. Arriving ten minutes before my scheduled appointment. I filled out the paperwork and was told that they were running late (already 25 minutes after the appointed time) It was explained to me (still in the waiting room), that I would be given a full set of dental x rays and then the cleaning. I explained a very legitimate medical reason for not wanting routine x rays before an exam and told her that I would certainly not object to them, should something suspicious turn up, subsequent to the exam. Waiting another 25 minutes (a full hour after I had arrived), she returned to say the dentist would not allow a cleaning without x rays. Please note, the flyer did NOT say anything about x rays being required in order to receive the $35 cleaning! The office staff was very apologetic about the wait and disappointment, but the dentist never came out to discuss this issue. When I returned home, I went to the American Dental Association and looked up their 'Dental Radiographic Examinations: Recommendations for Patient Selection and Limiting Radiation Exposure'. It's a long title that basically lays down guidelines for reasonable x ray exposure for various patients. On page 13 of this section, it states for 'new adult patients', "In the absence of any clinical signs or symptoms suggesting abnormalities of growth and development in adults, NO RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATIONS ARE INDICATED FOR THIS PURPOSE". The section went on to dissuade dentists from administering 'routine' x rays. I think this guy is into slick and deceptive advertising and is doing a disservice by administering 'routine' x ray exposure which the ADA is against!!
