I agree with the last review... wow, are some of these reviews off base!! Maybe they're just old. In any case, I've lived in Wesley Village for a little over a year now and I can definitely say that it's a great property to live in with beautiful landscaping, great apartments and helpful, friendly staff. I'd be lying if I said that everything were perfect at Wesley Village, but I can honestly say that I've been VERY HAPPY with my living experience to date and have very few complaints.
First of all, the apartments themselves are VERY NICE and well maintained. Maybe I've just been lucky and picked the perfect unit in the complex, but my apartment is very spacious with nice fixtures and appliances and is very quiet most of the time (except for during the day when the staff is landscaping nearby... but they're landscaping to keep the property looking nice, so I can't hold that against them). My neighbors who live close to me seem to be young professionals (as are most of the residents who live here), so I haven't had any issues with them partying all the time or keeping me up at night. The apartments are also very reasonably priced, which is a plus. You're not going to find the value that you find here anywhere else that is minutes away from Uptown. Sure, "Freedom Drive" might not be the most desirable address in Charlotte, but this place is tucked away off of Freedom Drive right where it starts (and could just as easily be considered to be off of Moorehead Street if that makes you feel better). The neighborhood is still "up and coming", but it's nice and I've never felt unsafe being here. Also, the common facilities (pool, gym, clubroom) are awesome. Couldn't ask for much more on that end.
I've never had issues with the staff being rude or my maintenance requests not being fulfilled or with trash not being picked up when it's supposed to be. If these were problems in the past, management has taken care of them. There was an issue with there not being enough dog waste stations on the property when I first moved in, and unfortunately there were some residents who didn't clean up after their dogs, but I think that's more an issue of having irresponsible residents than bad property management. If you can't clean up after your pet, then you're the problem, not the staff member sitting at the front desk. Thankfully, management added several additional dog waste stations several months ago and that problem has been remedied as well.
There are definitely some areas that could be improved, as i'm sure there are with most any property. For one, the pool on the weekends can be a little bit of a scene, which is fine by me but not for everyone. I do wish management would do a better job of restricting access to the pool to ensure that people who use it are either WV residents or guests of residents. My issue here isn't in regard to the number of guests at the pool (which management tries to limit through the use of wristbands, which they rarely enforce), but rather with the fact that there's no key FOB on the pool gates to restrict access to the pool so the pool is effectively open to the public. There aren't too many instances when I'm concerned about pool guests not being affiliated with WV, but there have been a few. Along those lines, I think the gates to the property in general should be redone in some fashion, cause they do seem to stay open too long which would make it very easy for cars to follow other cars in to the complex. And as a word of caution, if you're looking for an apartment here, you probably want to stay away from the main gate, cause the sound of cars going in and out of that gate is kinda loud. Also, my final complaint is that the dog park could use a little sprucing up... it's nice that they have one, but it's about as bare bones as it gets.
If you've made it this far in my review, then you're probably seriously thinking about getting an apartment in WV. And if you are, my general recommendation is that you should do yourself a favor and rent a unit here. It's hard to beat the price and I'm pretty confident that you'll be happy with your experience. Despite the few areas where Wesley Village could improve, this is a great place to live and I've really enjoyed being a resident here.
