Needed a new part for my mower and did a search online. Found it on the Power Outlet website, so I called them up and they said it was in stock. Fantastic! So, I battled rush hour traffic and got there two minutes before closing. The rest went something like this:
"I'm here to pick up a part that was set aside for me."
Here ya go...
"Wait - that says $29.95. It's $16 on the website."
I don't know.. I've never been on the website. Someone will be in to help in a minute.
(Older gentleman walks in. Cashier explains what's going on.
The price on the website doesn't include the fees of us actually handling the item.
"OK. I'm not paying $30 when your website says $16."
We can give you 10% off.
"I'll take my business elsewhere... that's ridiculous."
OK. Sorry.
That might work if you have a landscaping business and are in a bind, but to have one price on your website and charge nearly double in person? The manufacturer sells the same part for $12. So that's nearly a 300% markup!
