What makes the Rolling Pin a great place is the familiarity. It is the fact that when you eat a cookie, or try the soup, you are having the flavors of your childhood, of comfort and simplicity. I'm relatively new to the Madison area, I've been here less than a year and have eaten here on 5 or 6 different occasions. When I say that, I mean their soup and sandwiches which, are outstanding. You can tell that they take the time to ensure that every loaf of bread, and every slice of meat is the right one. Most people write about the desserts and totally overlook their lunch menu and it is a shame. But the desserts.... OMG the desserts. They are wonderful. I've had lemon tequila pie's and kiwi banana mango torts that are outstanding, but they are not grandmas food. They make extraordinary simplistic desserts that remind you of things your grandmother used to make and they do it correctly, they take their time. My wife had the Strawberry Shortcake for her birthday and it was to die for. I would recommend the Rolling Pin to someone who wants Midwest family familiarity with amazing attention to detail to fresh and correct ingredients.
