I was referred to Dr. Stewart MacKenzie by my regular Veterinarian, after my little 10 lb. Bichon/Shih Tzu had her jaw & 2 teeth broken while at a Dog Grooming appointment. I was told that Dr. MacKenzie was the only oral surgeon qualified to repair my precious little dog's jaw in the city of Calgary. The fact that a groomer could injure my little dog to this extent totally traumatized me & my little dog was in so much pain. Everything started off fine, I was so grateful to Dr. MacKenzie for saving my dog's life & performing the surgery. The 1st procedure did not work & my dog had to have another surgery. Her treatment/surgeries spanned over just about 3 months. Midway through the treatment, I began to distrust Dr. MacKenzie, as I repeatedly requested my dog's medical reports & x-rays & they never surfaced. I had experience with the Western Veterinary Hospital with Lexi & her medical/surgery reports were always ready for me when I took her home. The cost quote for Lexi's treatment did go up substantially from when I dropped her off for her initial surgery, Dr. MacKenzie did call me from the Operating Room to tell me it would be more money because she needed more dental work.....I was crying my eyes out, I wanted to save my little dog, so I agreed to the increased cost......I just wanted my dog saved. On the day of my dog's last surgery, I supplied them with a flash drive to copy my dog's files & they gave me an excuse that they had to format the x-rays to copy & that would take a while & would pop it in the mail. I asked my regular Vet to send me the original x-rays from his office & I received them within 15 minutes of my request via email. One week after the last surgery, I still had not received the medical files/x-rays by mail & called Dr. MacKenzie & said I would come pickup the flash drive myself. He told me to come the following Friday at 4 p.m. I am skeptical about the extra dental work my little dog required, if it was necessary, I don't know? Dr. MacKenzie definitely was not as transparent as Western Animal Hospital or my regular Vet or actually any other Veterinarian that my dogs have seen. I do have concerns about the validity of the x-rays that I was given. I would not recommend Dr. MacKenzie, he has the credentials but he lost my trust! It was such a traumatic time for me & my little dog & I feel taken advantage of.
