We made a special trip last week for the paczki. Two prior experiences with Oakmont Bakery were not good, but we thought those must just be anomalies, considering all of the hype about this bakery. Surely the well-advertised paczki must be good. But they tasted like something from a movie set -- something intended to look good for which taste does not matter. I just do not get the hype about this place! Where is the flavor? The paczki were not even good doughnuts, let alone something more special. The whole Oakmont Bakery thing strikes me as a phenomena that can happen in cultures of rich people -- once something is said to be good, then all of the rich people follow the leader and no one can evaluate it critically any more. This place is all hype.
