When I booked my rental, I was told I was going to get a Kia Rio or similar. When I got to the counter (after waiting in a very long line) I was told I would be getting a Smart Car. The last time I checked, the Rio and the Smart Car simply are not in the same class of cars. Most Rios have 4 doors or at least a trunk, therefore enabling me to store my suitcases. The guy at the counter informed me that there would NOT be enough room for myself, my husband and our 2 suitcases in a Smart Car so I had no choice but to upgrade and pay a higher rate. I felt completely ripped off. It literally felt like a scam. And to make it worse, after finally agreeing to upgrade, I went out to the garage and drove through the entire lot with my upgraded car and didn't see a single Smart Car. IF I decided to stick with the Smart Car, I wonder where it was... There wasn't one in the whole lot. I am convinced the whole thing is a scam and I won't be using Hertz ever again.
