I made it clear when I came in that I needed a basic cleaning, that I could not afford anything outside of what my insurance covered, and even had front desk do a pre-authorization. This doctor lied about the teeth cleaning service she was doing and then charged my insurance for exacerbated services that she did not perform on me, leaving me with an outstanding bill when the insurance company deemed those services unnecessary. It's wrong that medical providers can get away with this.
