The Mandarin name creates rather high expectations with regard to service and setting. On balance, while the Las Vegas version does not disappoint, it does not blow you away either.
For reasons that are not entirely clear, the lobby is on the 23rd floor of the City Center Tower where the Mandarin is located. All the rooms are below the 23rd floor, while their condos are above. Most people are accustomed to receiving top of the line everything from the Mandarin brand. Going down from the lobby to get to your room does not foster that impression. More to the point, the clear implication is that their are rooms above you that are somehow better than where you are going, which is not a great first impression. Besides the 23rd floor lobby creates some annoying elevator logistics, where you need two sets of elevators to generally get around and out of the hotel.
The rooms themselves are very plush with top of the line linens, furniture and electronics. The all electronic curtains, lights TV, temperature, etc controlled from a central device is nice. It would have been more impressive if I had not stayed at Aria the week before and they had the same identical system.
