I enjoyed my dinner here last Friday night. I chose the restaurant due to its Yelp reviews and it's proximity to the hospice facility I'd spent day and night at for the precious few days. I'm not much of a drinker but I wanted a glass of wine, a decent meal, and a bit of fresh air. I got pretty much all of that here. For wine...it's BYOB. If you're not from the area, that's a bit of a challenge. There is a wine bar next door, Grapperia, at which you can purchase a bottle and Piccolo Forno won't charge their corkage fee. The restaurant was crowded with young families (with young children), 20-30s aged groups, older couples, and a large wedding/rehearsal dinner group. Even though it was not yet 6 pm, there was an hour wait for an indoor table when we arrived, so we chose to be seated outside (immediate seating at that moment but it filled within 5 minutes of our being seated). The menu is limited, with some fairly heavy pastas, but they seem to make well the small number of items offered. Everything was fresh and delicious. The burrata with seasonal tomatoes was delicious: bright tomatoes and a creamy fresh burrata, which was heavenly with their focaccia (served on request, with butter). The tagliatelle with mushrooms was surprisingly toothsome, with fresh (housemade) tomato pasta. The pizzas are definitely popular here, so we ordered a margherita with pancetta added. The crust was nicely crisp and golden, with a chewy quality, and both the pancetta (not too salty, with an interesting smokiness to its flavor) and the mozzarella were good. It was more food than two people could consume, but they packaged the leftover pasta and pizza for us, thoughtfully adding in plastic cutlery and our leftover focaccia. There was some trouble with people driving by and yelling obscenities about "yuppies" and an unstable man stopping at our table and accosting us verbally (yelling that we would never be truly "rich" like he was and trying to get us to give him our wine). It made us a bit uncomfortable, but this wasn't the fault of the restaurant or its staff. It just let us know the neighborhood has probably been through some changes recently, possibly displacing people. My daughter and I needed a place to take a break from the sadness of our vigil at hospice, and Piccolo Forno provided that.
