I have been shopping at Sprouts for several years. I mostly just bought my fruits and vegetables at this location but the last trip I decided to purchase some chicken cutlets, grass fed ground beef, hot pork sausage and some sea scallops.
I immediately put the meat in the freezer when I got home and made the scallops for dinner that day, they were delicious. '
Over the following weeks I got out the meat to thaw and use for dinner and the chicken cutlets were rancid. I had to throw them out. Then I decided to use the ground beef and took it out of the freezer to make meatballs, and as I was browning the beef I could tell it just didn't smell quite right and asked my husband to come and smell the meat to see if it was just me, and he said, it smelled rotten and to throw it out. At that point I realized I had purchased meat that was going bad. Since I had bought it 2 weeks earlier I had thrown out my receipt so I couldn't return it.
Well today (3 and a half weeks later) I got out the hot sausage out of the freezer and the color looked ok. but I was very apprehensive about it. I let it thaw half way and started to brown it partially frozen and guess what? It was also spoiled, and I threw it out as well. About $23 worth of meat literally bad.
NEVER will I again purchase any meat at Sprouts again! I typically buy my meat at Safeway and never had a problem with bad meat. I will shop Sprouts for the specials on produce only!
My advise to Sprouts shoppers is to hold on to your receipts, Sprouts sells meat in their meat case that is often old and ready to spoil.
