Dr. Agarwal and his staff are awesome!!! I was very dedicated to breastfeeding with my first son, but experienced severe pain and bleeding during and between feedings. Basically my breasts hurt all the time. I did everything I could to educate myself on proper latch, but nothing worked, leaving me in pain and emotionally devastated at the fact that I could not properly feed my son. Things went on like this for a month. I basically worked for 40+ hours per week constantly researching breastfeeding. I did not come across lip or tongue tie for an entire month. As soon as I read about it, I knew that this is what was going on. I went in to see my son's first pediatrician (not Dr. Agarwal) and she told me that Theodore did not have a tongue tie and that they don't fix that until after two years old anyway. I knew I needed a second opinion. I found Dr. Agarwal and made an appointment. I will never forget meeting with him and how I felt afterwards. Dr. Agarwal confirmed that there was indeed a tongue and lip tie. He made me feel so relieved and like I was the best mom in the world for continuing to breastfeed through the pain. He explained that he could perform the procedures to fix both issues, but that we would have to do mouth exercises with Theodore to ensure the best outcome. This was true. The 10 minute in-office procedure did most of the work, but we still had to do mouth work 5-6 times per day for a couple weeks to ensure the wounds healed properly. This was very difficult because it was painful for my son, but it had to be done. In addition, we took Theodore to a pediatric chiropractor. Within 24 hours of this visit and after over 400 feedings, breastfeeding was pain free for the first time. If you are having dedicated to breastfeeding and are having issues, I encourage you to visit Agave Pediatrics, where they truly support the breastfeeding mom.
