Forest Park is beautiful, no doubt. However, retirees and disabled pals, be aware: rental requirements are that *each* person living in a unit in the complex must make triple the rent. I was advised by manager Pat Tull that they do not combine incomes of roommates unless they are family. This means that if you are disabled or a stay at home spouse/parent, you cannot qualify. Is dear old mom retired, and you want to move her in? No can do. It's a shame that such a lovely, well known fixture in Phoenix is so steeped in ableism. I am disabled, and take heavy duty biologic meds for my RA. I can't work. I keep to myself, read, tend to chores, and stay busy in a low physical impact way helping other chronically ill folks find resources to deal with disability on my "good" days. I'm quiet as a mouse. My partner/roommate meets the income requirements. But I only qualify to apply as an occupant if I radically recover and am able to work. If that were a possibility, I would have a wealth of options available to me, and I most certainly would take advantage of them.
This is not accessibility. Forest Park may be a historic landmark in Phoenix, but they need to update their worldview to the modern age. Ableism isn't acceptable anymore.
