the best cannolis ever bar none. growing up in new york ive had more than two lifetimes worth of canolis, and the best ever (N.A.) wasn't even in the city where Ellis Island is at.
what made alati caserta the best was their filling for sure, which was a mascarpone vs. ricotta which doesn't sog out the tube. its also the kind of filling that needs to be savored so don't be afraid to roll it around your palate. it wasn't too sweet but super creamy, killer taste, and-and minus the chocolate chips. one of my peeves with cannolis lately, a lot of bakeries like to add them for looks, which is fine if you add a few, but way more than a few end up in the tube and ruins a bite. even took a picture of the "cannoli king" in little italy in nyc just to compare. if it has a great filling and tube it doesn't need anything else because a great cannoli can stand in its own.
all this talk about cannolis and almost forgot the dessert that no Italian restaurant and bakery can't live without, tiramisu. theirs was just killer,... airy, creamy, chocolaty, with no liqueur.
thank you to my wife for finding this knowing my love of cannolis which she kept a secret as we walked to it. never thought of cannolis but leaf cookies don't why.
if you are in the area its a must stop and don't think about the calories. along with Caffé Italia I hope it never leaves.
