I was down in Pittsburgh visiting with a couple of friends and we had dinner at Kaya.....then the next morning we ended going back for brunch. Awkwardly, we saw the same hostess and the powers must have been with us because they sat us at the same table. Between all of us we tried several of the dishes including the Tuna Tartar with plantains, Calamari, Fish Tacos and pulled pork quesadilla. I enjoyed everything. The tuna tartar was massive and fresh. Calamari was good. It had peanuts, coconut and was served with a jicama and apple salad that complemented it well. Fish tacos were good (not the best I've ever had) but I would not hesitate to order it again if the craving it and the pulled pork quesadilla was delicious (very very very porky and meaty). The quesadilla looked more like a sandwich because it was so thick. Drinks were also excellent. I tried the Kaya-Chelada and loved it. It was not a traditional Chelada but it was a corona mixed with rum and lime. Had a sip of the mojito which was also excellent. Drinks were very strong. The next day we did some sight seeing and then at noon found ourselves starving. We had seen some people order the Kaya burger the night before.....and wow that was a sight. This was something we needed to try before leaving Pittsburgh. The Kaya Burger was delicious and messy. It was a thick burger stacked with an egg sunny side up, bacon, cheese, all the fixings and came with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were perfectly salty and crispy. It was a delicious pig out. My friend had a bloody mary that was delicious and spicy. I don't even like vodka or tomato juice that much! Service was excellent and prompt and the surrounding area has some fun bars and clubs just down one block.
