Really, I live literally 25 minutes driving from this bakery. Among the places I can reach within that time that are celebrated? Sidewalk Citizen in East Village. Le Picnic in Market on Macleod. L'Epicerie and Manuel Latruwe in Victoria Park. The late Corbeaux Bakehouse. Some of the best bakeries that Calgary has. But as much as I love those places, there are 2 especial areas that Sabastian just can't be touched by any other baker in this city: Croissants and Macarons. I can't even eat the damn macarons without getting a little sick. I have an allergy to almonds. But I let myself suffer every once in awhile, with the help of an allergy pill, because it is worth it. With every little bit of pleasure, I guess a little pain is my penance. I grab one, and then share the rest usually with Margaret of Primal Soup Company. She's probably Oh La La's biggest macaron fan. Croissants...THAT I can eat to my heart's content. It's buttery, flaky and simply unbelievably glorious to the palate and to the taste. I always pick up a few on the rare times I want to treat myself to simple magnificence. And damn. Now as I wrote this, I have a craving now. Especially for the Maple croissant. Definitely for it.
