We arrived on time for our reserved table. There were 2 or 3 young people managing reception. As is often the case, they were more interested in the banter between them or at least distracted by it than getting us seated. This, of course, says nothing about the food, but it does say something about managing staff at the first critical moment of truth. It all adds up. Better places get this right, of course. The service was very good but the food was average. We both ordered the roast chicken with mashed potatoes and haricot green beans. The chicken was delivered like warm so we sent it back. The replacements were noticeably better but still not really hot. The mashed were fine. But the beans were a little too al dente to our taste and the sauce was muddy, the flavors indistinct. That was our main complaint with the whole dish; there was something of a poultry seasoning-type flavor on all of it making it all kind of taste the same. This struck us as an overreach on the part of the chef trying to be too creative. Simple and clean far better and preferred. They comp'd the key lime pie which was very good, but sadly too little too late. We won't be coming back. 131 Main is far better.
