My go-to Madison lunch spot! My most recent Madtown visit was during a rather unfortunate St Patty's Day pub crawl (or maybe it was just drunk kids running around yelling at 11am in green t-shirts). This upstairs location was a beacon of sober hope in a sea of annihilated kiddos who didn't look older than high school. Simple decor, fairly quiet, super low key. Despite a help wanted sign, we were greeted and seated quickly. The mashawa soup was deliciously flavorful. Part of me wishes it was vegetarian so my boyfriend could have tried some, but the other part of me would definitely not want to give up the tender meat. If you're a n00b to Afghani cuisine, I'd liken it to middle-eastern-does-chili. Hearty and wonderful. The Tunisian spinach stew is certainly not a plate to pass up. Huge chunks of perfectly seasoned veggies. The BF said, "this is the kind of food you eat and then have a bunch of energy after, which you realize later is how every meal is supposed to be." And I could eat the bread all day, every day. Love love love this place. Don't sleep on it!
