Working in events keeps you on your toes and after 35 years of service, I would have expected DJ Mike to know that, or at least handle it professionally. At a recent wedding, the day before, a family member decided that she wanted to surprise the bride and groom with a few things throughout the reception. With the OK for a few changes to our itinerary, I contacted Mile via email (my phone call went unreturned) to make him aware of the changes and ask what form of digital media he needed to include a special mixed song. The response I received was less than professional, reading "a little late" as the introductory sentence. The day of the event, Mark and Frank arrived to set up. They were fantastic and great at communicating with me throughout the evening. Mike was a fantastic MC. I will, however, mention that over the 9 hour timeframe, I saw him searching for food, beer and the restroom at least a dozen times. The event was bid on through another website and our event was contracted to 9 hours, ending at midnight. At half past 10, Mike approached me and asked if we could start wrapping things up as he was not involved in the negotiation of pricing and doesn't work that long for what he was being paid. He continued to complain about how his family was at Disneyland without him and were extremely upset with him. Why schedule an event while your family is on vacation is beyond me. The way Mike handled the whole situation was very distasteful and he even had the gall to fish for a tip after the situation was resolved (he left Mark and Frank with his equipment to finish the night). The event as a whole was a success and I would absolutely work with Mark and Frank again, but I would hesitate to include Mike in a contract.
