WE love Whitby and an important part of going there is a visit to Bothams. This is an old family firm and there is a tea room on Skinner Street with waitresses dressed as they allways were in smart black and white. But first we walk around the old town taking in fish and chips and icecream and then into Baxtergate to put the finishing touch _a visit to another of the Botham shops. Our main target is lemon buns. These are a lovely teacake type bun covered with lemon flavoured icing and what a disappointment if they have sold out.We should go there first but we don't want to get them squashed (they are put in boxes which help).A sally lunn to take home helps us a bit and we rally enough to go to Skinner Street to try again.I have discovered they have a shop in Sleights which is an out of the way home trip but after all it is lemon buns at stake.
