I haven't checked out yet but I felt I needed to write a review when this old man smell is still freshly permeated in my room. Yeah.. As soon as you walked into my room, there's this scent that just reminded you of an old man's cologne. It didn't smell sexy. It didn't smell manly. Hell, my grandpa, bless his soul, smelled better than that. However, yeah.. Very oaky musky euwy smell.
I have to say though...it was my first time smelling it. I have stayed here before and I don't recall to ever smell it in the past. Maybe the guest before me used his cologne for room freshener. I don't know.
Otherwise, this hotel is okay. It's newer Fairfield Inns so it's still pretty nice. It is next to a Courtyard but for some reasons, Madison hotel prices can get out of whacked expensive. Like tonight, there's about $40 bucks difference in price between the two hotels. I usually stay at Fairfield when Courtyard is too pricy or full. It's really not much difference as far as comfort when the Fairfield is not old and dumpy.
This location has a gym as well. Some Fairfield will send you to a nearby local gym since they don't have it in the facility.
Front desk staff, once I was there it was fine. I tried to cancel one of the rooms I booked for my coworker, and that was an ordeal. The lady that answered the phone was short with me and she hung up on me while putting me on hold. I called back, and she said sorry but she was shorthanded and she had to call me back later. She asked me for my number and she kept repeating the wrong number like she couldn't hear what I said. She was also impatient about it so I told her never mind and I would call the 800 number. I did and got it taken care of. It was still pretty crappy though.
However, in overall, it is not a bad hotel. It's decent okay hotel and it is easy to get to, right off the highway. Hopefully my next stay the room will smell more like lavender than old man scent. That would be preferable.
