Now THIS is actually a dive bar. It has PBR cans for $3, loud '80s music, weird art / furniture, pretty gross bathrooms, an ATM, and capable, if disinterested, servers. We noticed this place on our way into E.L. Ruddy's next door. We realized quickly that Ruddy's was so not the vibe we were after (very bright, very squashed, people playing card games (looked like "Go Fish"), people leaving without finishing their gluten-free beers, hair-covered cat-lady carpet), so decamped immediately to Sex Laser. Sex Laser didn't have the wide beer and drink selection we're used to, but that's not the point. The point is to have a few rounds of $3 beer and sing along to your favourite old people tunes ('80s throwbacks) in peace and comfort. The sound system is good. The lighting is dark and cozy. We dropped in around 10:00, and the place was totally dead, but other groups of patrons eventually trickled in for their cheap cans. The bartender might have her face in her smart phone, but delivers the cans when they are wanted. This feels a bit like a starving artist companion bar to Dundas Video. I dig.
