I'm a fan of Creamistry - probably a bit more than I should be when I look at the cold, hard facts.
Prior to visiting here, we've only been to their Uptown Plaza location on Central and Camelback. I vouched for that place several months ago, giving them a solid four-star rating. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit, something went terribly wrong with the ice cream's consistency. The crew apparently did something incorrectly, which caused the ice cream to appear normal initially, but melted within less than a minute. And I'm not exaggerating when I say this. After just a minute, my arms were completely covered in ice cream as the consistency quickly turned to liquid. In a brief "moment of rage," I deemed mine to be useless and tossed it in the garbage. However, when I contacted the owner/franchisee about this issue, she was nice enough to send us out a couple of cards due to the mishap. We decided to check out this location for a change.
I ordered my usual Cap'n Crunch, while my girlfriend opted for Fruity Pebbles. In my other review, I claimed that the 30-minute wait time people were complaining about was nonsense, as we previously received our ice creams in less than five. But during this particular experience, I fully understand why they're whining. You have a boatload of people standing around impatiently waiting. One girl received hers - and by the time the boyfriend received his, she was practically finished. This, combined with the six dollar asking price for a small size without any additional toppings, is enough to turn off a lot of people.
But once again, I will reiterate what I said in my Camelback review. The ice cream here is very good quality. When done properly, it has a nice, creamy texture, that is ranked right up there with some of my favorites. In fact, I don't really feel you need to go crazy with toppings. Just pick a base and a main ingredient and leave the rest alone. Good ice cream doesn't require a mountain of toppings, in my opinion.
Be prepared to wait and don't go in expecting to receive a bargain. But judging strictly on the quality of the ice cream alone, I think they're pretty damned good!
