I pass by this place every single day on my way to and from work. For months and months I kept telling myself I had to go in and check it out. Well that day finally came last Saturday and I'm SO happy I finally did.
I've been lucky enough to actually travel to Heidelberg, Germany and while I was there I had the best pretzels I've ever had in my life. I love a good pretzel and have been looking for an authentic German pretzel to enter my life yet again...but at a much closer distance. The Old Heidelberg Bakery does just that.
When I walked in, I immediately smelled and noticed the large bin of freshly baked pretzels and pretzel buns. I was in aroma heaven. Then my eye caught a glimpse of their pretzel croissant. Are you kidding me?! A PRETZEL CRIOSSANT? I nearly shouted in the store before my boyfriend gently touched my shoulder to calm my excitement and bring me back to Earth. The stars aligned for me in that moment. It's buttery, flakey, AND has the saltiness of a pretzel. I could eat one every day if possible.
They also have several other loaves of freshly baked bread to choose from. Although I didn't buy it, several other customers came in to purchase their Sunflower bread. I will be heading back there soon to try and buy my own loaf! They also have other delectable pastries to choose from.
Besides their baked goods, they have sausages and bratwursts to take home. Not much beats an authentic German sausage or brat. Super savory and packed with flavor. They also have a back room with several German goods to explore and try. I can't wait to head back there and make a German feast in my own home.
