My friends and I ventured into Sweet Olenka's after feasting on fried chicken from Gushi. After consuming fried foods, cold desserts really hit the spot. In fact, I've seen the red velvet popsicles from this place on my social media feeds for a while; they are quite eye-catching with their red lip patterned exterior. However, that wasn't what I ended up ordering here because I'm not a fan of red velvet, or anything to do with chocolate in fact. What you can find here will be visually appealing from their teddy bear topped cakesters (cupcakes) to their fridge full of popsicle varieties and of course to their hard served ice cream. If you're old fashioned and want ice cream - but with a twist - they serve the conventional flavours alongside some rarer ones like peach. On the flip side, if you want something more snazzy, I recommend the popsicles or the cute cakesters. The caveat for some, however, is that most of the popsicles have a chocolate base (if you're pro-chocolate, you're good to go). I opted for the lemon sour cream popsicle instead because of the bright yellow coating. Fortunately, it was sweet and sour, tasting similar to lemon sorbet, but with a deep, creamy sour heaviness from the sour cream filling. The sour cream really does come through, and I honestly wished it was more subtle rather than overbearing. If you aren't a fan of sour cream, you may want to choose another option. I know I should have. Also, there is limited seating and natural light is barely present inside. This isn't the best choice for having a conversation with your friends and family. Instead, make this a bucket list item for grab and go treats at Kensington Market. Lastly, if you're budget conscious, note that the prices are reasonable. They are neither ''cheap'' nor expensive. Overall, Sweet Olenka's is a good choice to try something quickly and novel. However, entertaining a second visit may be a stretch.
