Dear Hopkins Airport, When people are traveling they sometimes arrive early. Or maybe they arrive just on time and then end up waiting on a delayed flight. On occasions such as these, it would be nice to have some options to pass the time. I do realize you have wi-fi available. And your bathrooms seem perfectly clean. There was a place to get bagels, donuts, and some food court type establishments. Maybe even a sit down restaurant. But I wasn't exactly overwhelmed or overcome by the available options. I do realize your primary reason for existing is to provide a place for planes to land and people to board these planes, but would it really hurt to put in a little more comfort? You might not be the biggest airport in the world. I'm willing to bet you're not even the largest associated with an Ohio city (but probably the largest actually IN Ohio). But I've been in some pretty tiny airports--Love Field in Dallas, Armstrong in New Orleans--and they seemed to have better ways to pass the time. On the other end of the spectrum, some times people are running late to the airport. Maybe they hit traffic. Maybe there was some emergency. Or maybe they're just lazy procrastinators who waited until the last minute to leave. In any case, those lazy bastards deserve a shot at still making their flight. While the lines I've experienced at security are not terrible, they aren't exactly setting any world records for speed and efficiency. But the biggest problems is your decision to locate the Rental Car Return lot somewhere near Akron. The bus ride is actually pretty tolerable--it's the side trip through all of Amish Country to actually drop off the car that makes a person question whether or not they'll need to catch a flight back to Cleveland in order to catch their flight out of Cleveland. Look, Cleveland is a pretty average city in a pretty average state. Nobody is going to confuse the area with Jacksonville or Charlotte or any of the other dregs of the American Urban Universe. So maybe being a pretty average airport is good enough. Certainly, I'll not lose any sleep thinking about your shortcomings. But, there comes a time in every airport's life when it has to take a look in the mirror and ask if it really living up to it's true potential. Can you say you are, Hopkins Airport?
