I have never had a bad experience here and that alone makes me wonder if I shouldn't just give it five stars at some point! I save those for the knock out experiences, otherwise I probably would. The menu is seasonal, but you can count on at least a variation of a few of your favorites making their way back to the menu each year. Everything I have tried has always been very well prepared, and often times it is simple yet very rich in flavor.
This time around was a Saturday night during the construction craziness that is Monroe street, where we met our parents for dinner with the kiddos. It was busier than expected, but we easily got a table after a short wait at about 5:30.
We ordered a couple of orders of frites as well as the Belgian meatballs. Paprika aioli had a tiny kick that was really nice with the frites - two orders was just barely sufficient for the 7 of us. The meatballs were outstanding. I do a little happy dance every time I see meatballs on this menu, and this particular version will stick out for a while. Tender, flavorful, and the sauce had a great finish. Loved the complement of the mushrooms as well. Carbonade Flamande, the Flemish beef stew, was my choice for the evening. Both of these dishes should have been served with a small piece of soft fresh bread for ease of mopping up the last bit of awesome on your plate.
You'll never go wrong choosing this place. The food is prepared by people who care about food, and the bar atmosphere is both welcoming to families yet trendy enough to hang out in with friends. If you are reading this in 2018, don't sweat the construction. Plenty of parking on side streets.
