Like most, I visited to pick up some Pasteis de nata, those world-famous flaky egg custard tarts. This spot is well-known for them and even have a handful of flavoured ones if you're feeling adventurous.
Having tried all of the flavours, I still think the original is the best. The maple and coconut ones do work with the egg flavour, but it feels like a completely different dessert. They had a chai one, something with apple, and a chocolate one, which weren't bad but maybe a bit too different from the original for me.
The location has other offerings including other pastries, coffee, savoury things. The space is large and bright, with healthy plants and a nice happy atmosphere and staff.
I went in last week and was surprised to see the new sign outdoors with a record on it. Once I got in I realized why! There are some record bins in there now and some turntables at the entrance (and an Erykah Badu record was spinning when I visited). The space seems to have gotten a refresh which will no doubt please the younger generation moving to the neighbourhood--the food will keep the regulars coming back.
