I'm a retired teacher. I've banked with SS off and on since 1970. In the beginning, they were smaller, more personalized...helpful. Now, not so much. In 1998, I got a mortgage thru them...problem: they SELL the mortgage, plus the "mortgage service company" is a "third party" (their words. Between the "service company" and the current option of bill paying thru the SS online system, my mortgage "service" isn't...being serviced. Tried everything...finally went in to the McLeod branch for a one on one...Not helpful. Frustrating. I took the time to "google" the "mortgage service company"...why in the world would SS retain them? Can we say scam, boys and girls? It's been bought and sold more than a few times...boils down to "show me the money"...they can make much more of their bottom line without the fear of foreclosure and losing any money. Not a good way to assist folks. SS pretty much told me, "it's not our problem".
