Tsukemen is my absolute favorite, so when I learned that Hokkaido serves it I was extremely excited to give it a try. Sad to say, both my boyfriend and I left feeling very, very underwhelmed. :( I believe he ordered the shoyu cha-shu ramen while I ordered the tsukemen and we got some gyoza to share. The gyoza is nice and crisp, and the texture of it was quite pleasant but I felt that the primary flavor was solely ginger. Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of ginger but I felt that you couldn't taste much else in the gyoza. After having one or two, it felt a tad bit tiresome in my opinion. When his ramen and my tsukemen came out, I must say that everything looked delicious and I was pleasantly surprised with the large portion sizes. However, both my boyfriend and I agreed that the broth could have been significantly warmer. Because it was not as hot as I was expecting, everything felt sort of "stale," if that makes sense. I am not quite sure if it was supposed to be this way, but my tsukemen came with a hard-boiled egg, which caught me by surprise. I absolutely love ajitama, so when I broke open the egg to find it hard-boiled, I was surprised, confused, and honestly a little disappointed. :( All in all, I feel the overall experience just felt very lackluster. :( I would not be opposed to visiting Hokkaido again if someone invited me out, but I unfortunately have to say that it would not be my first choice for ramen again. :(
