Best sushi in Charlotte. I always leave Yama satisfied with what I have ordered and how much I have paid. I have a few favorites (Morrison, HM, New Yorker) and have never been completely dissatisfied when trying new ones. The staff is friendly and willing to offer recommendations. We typically go with friends before a movie at Phillips Place and have been in and out within an hour - fast service if you know what you want, are sharing with others and are ready to order. The bar is just OK and close to the seated area so on busy nights it feels tight but it's also great to see their business thriving. The ginger-tinis are delicious. They also used to run a great deal with Winestore (next door) but it's rumored that they have stopped the promo. You used to be able to bring a bottle from WS and they would uncork the first bottle for free. It was a great deal for my husband and I who love wine. Unfortunately, a bottle off of Yama's list will run you at least $25-$30. I'll stick with the sake from now on - lots to choose from! It's not going to turn into a techno club like Nikko or Enso. Much more down to earth, basic decor and a great place for groups/conversation and families.
