I came in with an approved certificate from a lender, not a pre-approval you get in the mail. I had already completed the credit application with the bank and was already approved for the loan. The sales guy said I'd have to fill out a paper credit app. I told him I didn't want to run credit again. It wasn't until I walked to the business office and was handed a contract with a different bank that I found they had pulled my credit with several other banks. I'm not pleased about this. They failed to disclose repairs they had done on the the car, and kept pushing the "clean" Carfax. The car had been in an accident that caused the front end to need significant repairs. They were combative when my boyfriend asked about the repair job. Be sure you have a mechanic to look over any car you're interested in, because these guys won't be upfront. On the plus side, I did get a decent deal on a car. I bought earlier this year and waited to post this to make sure the car was trouble free. So far, so good.
