I would caution everyone to avoid this place like the plague! It's a total ripoff! High mileage cars that are outrageously overprice and begin to fall apart immediately! Within a few days I had to get new tires and a battery after paying a $1,500 down payment!
The "Free Oil Changes and maintenance" are BS. Sears does the oil changes and never replaces air filter, tops off fluids, nada.
Less than 2 years into the lease, the car dies and DriveTime insists it needs a new engine! I have to deal with Avarex, their scam warranty company who insists Meineke puts a rebuilt engine in the car. Meineke kept the vehicle over a month! They refused to give me any information about where the engine came from, how many miles it had on it, etc. Same with Avarex. DriveTime does NOT provide a rental car or courtesy car. Meineke has a courtesy car but won't use it to help you out. The rental cost me well over $1,000! DriveTime claimed they would credit me some money for the cost of the rental car, inconvenience,etc. I never got a dime AND they forced me to pay payments of over $200 a week while the car was in the shop!
I finally get the car back and it ran terrible. Loud clicking sounds, engine was dragging, loud squeaking noise and car sputtered when I turned on AC! Took car back and they tried to get me to pay $100 to look at it when they KNEW they screwed it up! Engine was NOT installed properly! Motor mounts were NOT used AT ALL! Manager was a complete jerk barely out of adolescence. The car never drove safely after taking it to Meineke. They also tried to continue the scam and tell me I needed a Catalytic Converter to the tune of $660! Not today Satan, not today!
There was a year warranty on the engine. Before the warranty was up a spark plug popped out of the engine! I called and spoke to another toddler manager-they had hired and fired 5 in less than 1 year! This idiot told me he didn't have a record of them ever working on my car!
I told him he was lying and I was on their website looking at ALL the work they had done on my car INCLUDING INSTALLING THE REBUILT ENGINE! They had done all this supposed work when they had it for over a month! Called corporate, they said the manager HAD to fix it! I called back and he said I would have to PAY them to fix their previously faulty work! Car has NOT been fixed.
DriveTime is very miserly about paying for repairs. They have no qualms about risking your life or your kid's lives. For example, they will NOT approve a brake job until your brakes are squealing, smoking, metal on metal! You have zero choice in who repairs your vehicle! Once the lease ends, if you keep the car DriveTime/Avarex refuse to fix anything even if it was not repaired properly and is under warranty!
Avoid at all costs or it may cost you your life!
