I'm going to be really honest. I loved Mabel's the first few times I visited. And then on Friday night, my boyfriend and I went to get dinner and drinks and were rudely dismissed at the front door because we were wearing "sandals." Normally I would understand a dress code... but the countless other times we've been to Mabel's we have been let in wearing the exact same clothes. The only difference was that this time, it was more crowded and there were lots of "pretty people" - you know, your typical rail thin Scottsdale girl and hair gelled/preppy Scottsdale guy. I am not rail thin and my boyfriend is not a meathead. So we don't fit in around these parts in general. However, it's a shame that a place we normally love made us feel so unwanted and out of place early on a Friday night. I am a laid back east coast girl and am not much of a fan of Arizona in general, but wow. This just sealed the deal. Scottsdale is NOT for me.
