Never going to Berge again.
I purchased a car from Berge Ford at the end of June. Having limited credit, I had my father co-sign the loan to receive a better interest rate. We both adamantly expressed that this was to be my car, in my name, paid for by me; the sole purpose of his name was a lower interest rate. The following frustration has transpired after the purchase:
I signed the purchase contract the night of the purchase, and was expressly told that the name listed first on the contract did not matter. My father's name was first and mine was second. Reluctantly, we decided the finance director knew best. Days later I was told that the name listed first did, in fact, matter. My name had to be first to qualify for a college rebate, so I had to go back to the dealership, pick up the contract, and have it signed a second time.
Several days after signing the contract a second time, I was informed by Berge that they made a mistake on the zip code in the contract. I had to go back to the dealership, pick up the contract, and have it signed a third time. A couple days after that, I found out the zip code mistake was still not fixed, and had the finance director actually come to my house to have the contract signed a fourth time.
After submitting the correct contract with my name listed first, mail began to arrive in my father's name, despite assurances that the car was in my name. The car ownership card, the warranty documentation, the Sirius free trial information, and all routine mail from the dealership arrived in my father's name, rather than mine. I had to go out of my way to get the problem fixed with the dealership, and have all mail re-sent in my name. To this day, Sirius still sends mail to my father based on the information that Berge provided
While purchasing my car I was expressly told by the salesman that the Ford College Rebate had to be submitted after the purchase was made. I found out later (on the Ford website) that I could have done it at the time of purchase. I brought a copy of my diploma and the Ford-assigned rebate tracking number into the dealership in mid-July, as instructed online. After months of not hearing anything about my rebate, I contacted the dealership in mid-November and was told they somehow did not have a copy of my diploma.
I re-submitted a copy of my diploma and tracking number via email, and was told that my rebate would be mailed the week of December 28. On January 15 I contacted the dealership, told them I had not yet received my rebate, and was told that they would track the issue and make sure I got it. By February 9th I had not heard anything, so I filed a complaint to Ford corporate. On February 17 I finally received my rebate, 7 months after first applying for it. The rebate was addressed to my father, despite the fact that all rebate information was in my name. I had to go back to the dealership and have a new check re-issued in my name.
After dealing with these problems, I wrote an email to the general manger and explained what I went through. I received no response. Once Berge has sold you a car, they do not care about you as a customer. Save yourself the trouble and buy a car anywhere but Berge.
