The guitar tech should be fired. I bought a new Jackson DK2QM online from another store. It came with a set of .09's on it but I prefer .10's. Now I've set up at least 10 Floyd Rose type tremelo's in my life with no problems so I know more than a little. Anyway, after doing my new guitar, it would not stay in tune when bending up. The top 3 strings would go out of tune up, not down as if the tremelo wasn't going all the way back down. I thought maybe a spring was bad so I took it in to G.C. at Summerlin, an authorized repair center.
After 4 days of the tech luthier being there and hearing nothing, I gave them a call. He said the neck needed an adjustment and the strings were not stretched. He said he fixed it and that it would be no charge. First of all, he should have called me before he did anything to tell me if any work was covered under the warranty or not. Really, as I said before, I've done this and changed guages on many guitars before, I'm no rookie myself. Anyway, I told him I was going to pick it up that day. Good thing I didn't leave because a half hour later he called me back saying that he had two red Jackson's and that he mixed mine up with a setup with .09's. Well that's interesting, it contradicts his first story because if he thought mine were the other guys, he wouldn't have been checking it out to diagnose a problem to begin with. Obviously a lie. He said he needed an hour and a half to set it back to .10's. That's funny, it takes me that long worst case scenario and I'm not a professional. Anyway, I told him I would pick up the next day.
Went to pick it up but was in a hurry and it seemed to work great. However, when I got it home I found that he didn't balance the tremelo and it was leaning backwards more than a little bit. I also noticed fret buzz up all the lower frets on the low E that wasn't there before. That means he either did it in a hurry or he is incompetent. I also noticed a ding on the high end, back side of the neck that I'm pretty sure wasn't there.
I took it back to them, explained everything to the manager, and let the tech play with it for 40 minutes while I waited. His solution was to raise the action? Talk about corner cutting and not dealing with the issue. I now have to either deal with it myself or take it to the other Guitar Center in town. Thanks a lot clowns.
