I was hoping this would be a good Thai place based on some of the other reviews, but as someone who has tried most of the Thai restaurants in the Valley, I'm sorry to report that this place is at the bottom of my list of destinations, even when in north Phoenix (better to drive than settle).
Now keep in mind, we have certain items we always order when we eat Thai, and Tom Kha Gai (chicken coconut soup) is one of them. This place doesn't do it well. No galanga, no depth of flavor or complexity, and much, MUCH too sweet. I can't stress this enough. Are they adding sugar, or is it just that they use over-sweetened coconut milk? Not sure. But it's bad. A really big disappointment if you know what good Tom Kha Gai tastes like. They also do not have Angel Wings, which is a staple for one of my family members (they don't even know what they are!).
Other issues / red flags:
- The menu has Vietnamese and Chinese items on it. Do one thing, and do it well... or do fusion I guess. But don't try and specialize in three complex, disparate cuisines. Unless you have a VERY talented, world-traveled chef (or a team of chefs), that never works out well.
- The gentleman who answered the phone when I called with my order does not understand even basic English. For example, he does not know what "hot" versus "mild" means. This is a big problem as you can imagine.
- If you plan to eat there, beware. The temperature inside the restaurant on a lovely December evening was 80 degrees. You'll be sweating before you get to appetizers.
A few notes to the positive:
- Pricing is low
- Panang Curry had a very good flavor
