If you're the coffee equivalent of a "gearhead", then this store is for you. With a seemingly endless display section of coffee pots, french presses, bean grinders and other accoutrements, it seems like you could buy enough at Green Beanery to start your *own* coffee shop. Directly opposing the neighborhood Lettieri coffee shop, and within a five block radius of at least a dozen coffee shops and houses, one begins to wonder if more caffeine is really what the Annex needs. Nonetheless, you can't argue that these guys know their stuff. If you're trying to decide between a vacuum coffee press and a percolator, I'm sure these guys would be your go-to source for information. As far as their coffee shop side goes, it's a nice laid back place to have a latte. Their offerings are fairly paired down, which is honestly a nice change from some of the nearby shops - I don't need my barista busy mucking around grilling panini when I want my soy latte already. The staff are all very friendly and perfectly happy to leave you to your devices as you sink into your coffee and a newspaper. The music is inoffensive and the shop ambiance unremarkable (unless you get off on looking at a bunch of coffee pots). The only disappointment I've had is with their 'gelato' which seems to have been bought premade and sitting in cardboard drums too long. The pistachio cup I had this summer was positively gummy and the flavor was akin to store brand ice cream. For someone who loves gelato as much as I do, this was a huge blow, especially since the Annex is sorely lacking in gelato. The other strange thing is that the cold counter with the gelato bumps against the rear wall, probably five or six feet from the counter, so you can't even look in at it, you have to ask the barista for the flavors. Overall, not too impressive. Don't go for gelato, go for coffee and shiny shiny coffee pots.
