In my opinion, I was really disappointed when I met Dr. B. I had hopes because calling around to other dentists' offices looking for a pedodontist, an adult-only dentist office said they had heard very positive recommendations about him. I knew that my baby had brown stuff on her teeth, but when we finally met him, in my opinion, he had zero bedside manner. In my opinion, he literally walked in looking like he had just seen a ghost or someone died. He never smiled once. In my opinion, he was not comforting at all. He basically said that my baby's teeth were breaking down, and she needs caps on all of them, which would require sedation dentistry. He then also said that none of the surgery centers would do it because the state didn't provide any funding, so all they could do is put us on a list, and wait and hope that the law got changed; in the meantime, he said it was the children who would suffer. He nor any of his staff didn't tell me any suggestions on how to care for her teeth in the meantime, how to gently restrain her while brushing her teeth if she resisted, none of the things that other mommies have told me that other pediatric dentists do. Before we went in when I made the appointment, I asked them if it was okay if I didn't want her at 22 months to get x-rays or fluoride. They said that that was totally fine. He did ask again in person if I was open to the possibility of fluoride, which I said I really didn't want to do to her because it calcifies the pineal gland. It's a matter of personal opinion whether a person's teeth or their pineal gland is more important to their well-being. Regardless, I accept the fact that her teeth have decay, but I found his whole demeanor and bedside manner, in my opinion, off-putting, insensitive, lacking in compassion and cold. My goal in doing my thorough research was to find a wonderful pediatric dentist like I had when I was a kid, a dentist in Hawaii who would do Donald Duck's voice for me. In my opinion, I didn't see a remote shadow of that effort to make the experience comforting put forth by this dentist. In my opinion, he failed to provide me or my daughter with instructions on how to take care of her teeth while we are at home, and what we do at home every day, especially as her teeth continue to decay, is what's most important. Through research on my own, I got her to love brushing her teeth virtually overnight by getting her an electric toothbrush & playing the Blippi tooth brushing song on YouTube. There's also a book Cure Tooth Decay that suggests diet changes & a protocol can help remineralize teeth. I found all of these on my own. And also, in my opinion and experience, he lacks the bedside manner to put babies and children at ease. I found the whole visit awkward, uncomfortable and dismal. Regardless of her diagnosis, I would have appreciated any degree of comforting, human response. I absolutely do not recommend this dentist for kids at all.
