When we were ready to trade our 2007 Mini, we decided to look at VW since our experience with the two VW's we already own was good ('04 Jetta 1.8T, '07 Passat 2.0T) James Hedland welcomed us at the door and asked us what we were looking for. We explained that my wife works for Hospice of the Valley and puts 20K miles a year on her car going to home visits so we were looking for a new reliable vehicle to replace our aging Mini. We really were interested in the GTI, but James rightly suggested we look at the TDI because of the fuel mileage even though they are priced several thousand less than a GTI and this would, I imagine, have reduced his commission. James really listened to our needs and put our wants/needs above just selling us the most expensive care he could. James is very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of VW's and quickly answered all of our questions. I am rather a car geek so I know a BS car guy from a real one and James is the real deal. After driving both the Golf TDI and the GTI, we ended up in an Autobahn GTI because the power and handling was more important to us than the fuel mileage of the TDI. (Life is too short to drive a boring car and even though the TDI was well above boring, the GTI is totally North of it.) The price was decent and the VW financing terms were great, but our trade in wasn't worth nearly what we had hoped (is it ever?). Even so the team at VW NS was able to get us terms that were acceptable. If you are looking for a VW, give James a call. He truly is a "car guy", knows VW's inside and out and will listen to your needs and put you in the right car. Chad, the Finance Manager we worked with, was great as he was not pushy and like James, listened to our needs instead of just selling us the "standard" suite of products. In the end we would shop a Penske North Scottsdale dealership again. Next time I hope is is for an BMW M3 for me, but we will probably be back for another VW because of the value, but especially if James is still there.
