Somewhere amidst the warmhearted sunlight and shady palm trees of Phoenix lies a mirage-like discovery: 'Parisians' crowding the perimeter of a corner brasserie, lounging on the terrace, luxuriating in white wine and hearty salads. The mise en scène conjures up a choice scenario from the legendary Bewitched (1964-1972) starring Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York.1 In Season 2 - Episode 24, "Samantha, The Dressmaker," Samantha and her mother, Endora, take to the streets of Paris for a lunch date at a charming bistro around the corner of Rue de la Paix. 2 Accordingly, the two model regal fashions of the epoch - Samantha's café au lait capeline particularly caught my fancy - but what's equally essential in the iconic moment is Endora's assertion: If you're going to have lunch, have an excellent one. Zinc Bistro made Food & Wine's Top 10 list of new bistros in North America, and locally earned the title of Best French Restaurant in Phoenix by the Arizona Republic. Tempted by the prospect of a Paris getaway if only for the afternoon, I found Zinc Bistro the ideal location for a bewitching lunch with my mother.
