The craving for coffee hit about two minutes after I was sure I had passed the last exit in Southern Indiana where I could have bought a brew to satisfy my tastes.
I was en route from Louisville to Madison, Ind., to visit a friend. The day was a little on the chilly side -- really a typical fall day. And my drive would have been that much better if I could have done it with a warm coffee or latte in my right hand.
So the entire way to Madison, "Coffee. Coffee! COFFEE!" was screaming in my head.
I decided to take a slight detour and drive through downtown Madison to see if I could find something, consulting Yelp of course.
And happy dance! Madison Coffee & Tea became my salvation.
This java hot spot is such a cool addition to Madison. From what my friend later told me, they recently underwent a renovation, and it now looks like a place out of New York or Chicago. Very modern and chic.
The Scrabble-esque menu board immediately caught my eye. And I could imagine, if I lived in Madison, whiling away many hours at its tables, sipping lattes and looking out on the picturesque tall buildings that line Main Street.
(Seriously, if you haven't yet visited Madison, please do! It has such a beautiful downtown right on the Ohio River.)
The line to the counter progressed slowly when I was there, but I think that had more to do with the couple who was rooting around in their wallet and purse for the few extra pennies they needed for perfect change than anything else.
The young lady behind the counter was the epitome of polite, and you could tell she was working as fast as she could to fill orders.
I got a chai latte, which definitely hit the spot. The only complaint I have is that it was a bit on the watered down side -- but, still, good.
I'm sure I will be making a pitstop at Madison Coffee & Tea the next time I'm in town.
