Neon signs? Bars on the windows? Finally, an ABC store that feels like a liquor store! I don't know why they ever decided to homogenize the ABC system in that awful red-and-white style. I am glad that this location escaped the massacre. And inside, staff who act like they work at a liquor store! They didn't scowl at me for purchasing alcohol! They actually know something about liquor! Yippee! It is scary to think that my standards are this low. To impress me, all a liquor store needs to do is not treat me like a criminal. Unfortunately, that isn't very common in North Carolina. Maybe that's why the state is ranked 48th by alcohol consumption per capita. ¡Que triste! South Carolina, our ABC-free neighbor, clocks in at 35th. So revel in the dingy exterior, marvel at the hand written signs and, for a moment, imagine that the man selling you liquor isn't a pensionable government employee.
