How could I not be a fan of this place? I read the owner's (Tom) comments here on Yelp just prior to going in and I was sold. Anyone who eats a donut everyday for 36 years must know something about donuts! I walk in the door, and guess who greets me at door? Well, it was Tom of course. And I say something like , "you look pretty good for a guy who has eaten a donut everyday for 30 years..." and he said, "technically, it's 36!" I knew right then I was in a place I was coming back to! Kudos to Tom. Now, honestly, when I read the reviews, I had decided not to go by. Masterpiece makes made-to-order donuts just like other places I've gone too. Masterpiece's made-to-order donuts are cake donuts. I generally dislike cake donuts. But to be quite honest, and not to repeat myself, I figured someone who ate 13,000+ donuts must know something. Truly happy I stopped in. I tried a modified Monet (glaze - vanilla, sea salt and Carmel drizzle) and of course I had coffee. It wasn't too busy in there, so I loved the personal touch of having my coffee and Donut walked over to me whilst I waited. Oh yeah, back to the donut.... I was seriously concerned about liking a cake donut, so I slowly took the donut in for a taste. The texture of the donut was light and airy and not dense and thirst inducing like most cake donuts I've tried. The taste reminded me of a cronut, but not. It was simply delicious and satisfying. I also read some reviews in which people seem to love or hate the "walk up and place your order on a tablet". approach. I liked it. The screens were easy to follow. Like any new app on my phone, it takes a second to find what I need, and then it's cool. I'll know when I come back with my child how easy or pain free it is. Return factor:100% I am going back armed with my donut expert tomorrow. My kid will get to the bottom of a delicious donut! She eats a donut a week; not exactly Tom's level of experience or his tasting pace, but she knows a good donut.
