Well, I grew up eating at the Carlos O'Briens in central Phoenix and it was always a family favorite. There is now one out in Avondale so we have gone a couple times. What I am finding now is.. meh? The salsa is great, chips are good. I would say the salsa is the best part of this place. It has the right amount of heat and I could eat it all day. The downside I find is that the meat really lacks any flavor. I got the pollo fundido but swapped for shredded beef instead of chicken. This is a deep fried chimi basically split into 3 sections with melted cheese and a very yummy cream cheese sauce on top. I've always loved this dish. But I found myself not blown away by the flavor like I am other places. Again, I do believe it is all in the lack of flavor in the meat. If they stepped this up, it would be better. Every time I have gone this is the same issue I come across. I have not been when it was crowded at this location so it was relaxing to just walk right in. Our server was great and took care of us. I wouldn't say don't go here.. I'd just say don't expect to be blown away because you won't.
