The Yelp team keeps delivering great events; printmaking at Zycote Press was another winner and a great introduction to another place that makes Cleveland such an interesting place to be. Located on E.30th between Superior and St. Clair roads Zygote Press is a cool place for anyone interested in Printmaking. Zygote has a small gallery in the front where they do shows, the current show is dedicated to Zygote printmakers who have passed away. Zygote also has prints, cards and other items for sale, well worth a visit if you are looking for some local art.
Where Zygote really shines is as a place for anyone who wants to make prints; from novices to advanced artists. They will provide facilities for anyone who knows what they are doing, but they also provide classes and instructions. One of the more interesting things is that Zygote is one of the few environmentally green printmaking facilities in the country.
The Yelp event was a nice introduction to Zygote and what they do. They set up 3 different printmaking methods and then allowed us to make our own prints to take home with us. I went to the letterprinting area where they have a number of presses; they had a press set up with "Printed at Zygote"; we then took our prints to several silkscreen stations with different colors and screens with abstract patterns. Finally they had an area where they were explaining and demonstrating the etching method of printmaking.
The staff at Zygote were really patient and helpful, explaining their artform, answering questions and helping participants through the process. Between Zygote and the Yelp staff another outstanding event.
