I stopped in the day Colossal Cupcakes opened and was un-impressed... The strawberry-banana cupcake (overpriced at $3.75) was basically pink and yellow cake swirled together (without actually being flavored enough to be described as strawberry or banana). Neither the cake or frosting was anything worth mentioning... Also, it was utter chaos trying to actually buy anything - the staff was undertrained, rude and harried... Since it was their first day, I decided to give them the benefit of doubt, and assumed they needed to work out some kinks.
That being said, after my second visit this Saturday, I have put this on my "Never Again" list. The cupcake I tried this time (cookie monster) was very "meh..."
But the thing that really stuck out to me was how unfriendly and strange the atmosphere was... It was truly bizarre - an older man stood at the register in a way that made me think he had one hand on a baseball bat under the counter - he was non-verbal and suspiciously glared at everyone in line. The girl who took our order never spoke to us other than to announce the (sticker shock-inducing) total. Very, very strange people... At least, they are definitely not the kind of cheerful, happy-go-lucky people you would think would find themselves in the business of serving the world's most adorable kind of food.
I definitely think the shop's future might be in jeopardy if others are having similar experiences there.
