I have dined at Alex twice, with different experiences. Both times the food was excellent, although I enjoyed it more the first time. The dining experience is not for the budget conscious, to be sure, but the service is wonderful from beginning to end. From the warm greeting at the door, to the infamous purse stool, to the non-stuffy sommelier, and ending with a box of macaroons on the way out, from beginning to end the staff at Alex pampers you.
The food is solid, contains interesting innovations, and portions are decently sized, especially for a tasting menu. The dining room itself is stunning and makes for a very enjoyable evening.
