We have had good experiences in the past here but our dog's recent stay was a bit of an eye-opener. There was a local power failure in the area on the morning I was heading back from vacation to pick up our pup and The Cozy Inn in Plum had no power as a direct result. I was in West Virginia and heading toward Pittsburgh when I called the location 3 times over an hour period and the phone rang off the hook I was very concerned and remembering that they had a sister location in Stahlstown I called that location and was told the power was out in that area of Plum. It was immediately apparent that they did not have a standby power source for the kennel nor did they have any plan for how to actually answer their phone during a power failure. At least the latter is as simple as having either a UPS attached to the phone system or an inexpensive analog phone tied to the customer side of the telco connection (failing any of this would be a backup call forward to a cell phone). This all happened on a warm sunny spring day so no worries for us except where to board our dog in the future. Had this happened as a multiple day outage during a storm in the cold of winter the outcome may not have been as pretty. Either way this kennel went from a first pick for us to a last pick. After doing some calling to other kennels in the area I found two that have adequate standby power and have made good contingency plans. The other point one of the kennel owners brought up was to look around the facility and take heed of how much of the construction materials used are of a potentially combustible nature. A good boarding facility isn't built like your home. Concrete block walls and polished and sealed poured concrete floors can be the hallmarks of a safe facility.
